Management Makes a Funny

Management hath decreed the following in Acme Regional’s Emerg:

“Break times will now be scheduled, and each nurse will be assigned first or second break with their patient assignments. Please ensure you practice good time management and plan your care and workload around break times.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. [Insert image of TorontoEmerg rolling on the floor laughing hysterically and insanely.]

Who says management doesn’t have a sense of humour?

Typical policy resulting from micro brains trying to micro manage.

That is the most ridiculous thing ever. Does management even understand that managing AROUND a break is practically impossible? There is ALWAYS something going on that can’t wait. Such as another service who needs to come for a consult, an xray to be done, an appointment with PT, and so on and so on. On my unit, we’re supposed to be able to take a 30 min break and a 1 hr break somewhere throughout the day. You’d be lucky if you are even able to get both! Usually, I’m only able to get my 1 hr break and that’s just to eat lunch around 1600. The ward is THAT busy. I don’t understand why management won’t hire more people.

managing around a break means putting the break higher on the priority than your patient. i hate that. had a partner once who was constantly reminding me how close the time was to her break when i asked her to do something with me – like i was supposed to hurry up or mr. so and so was supposed to schedule his crazy episodes for her convenience.
