Where the Problem Lies

Overheard at Triage:

Paramedic: 83 year-old female, history of MI, A Fib, CVA, Altzheimer’s, Parkinson’s. Sent in by the nursing home as a Failure to Cope.

Triage Nurse: Who isn’t coping? The patient or the nursing home?

I think the problem lies in the fact that Ontario long-term care homes (LTC) are primarily for-profit.

    I believe it is 530 / 640 are for-profit.
The purpose of LTC is to care for this with issues.
Unfortunately, there are many seniors with mental health disorders in LTC, or in hospital as ALC.

Obviously, there is already a diagnosis.
The issue is how does LTC cope with people like this.
It is summed up in this American friend’s post.
