Even Sometimes I’m Amazed

This was the talk of the emerg yesterday. At least, one of them is in jail.

Police have arrested one man and are looking for another in the theft of over $7,000 worth of jewellery from an unconscious elderly woman just moments before she died in a Toronto hospital.

Police allege the same two men robbed patients in four other local hospitals during the past while.

The patient —  who was dying of brain cancer, and in fact died a few moments after being robbed — apparently brought so much jewellery to the hospital because she had been burglarized at home in the past.

I’m not going to rant on about what an outrageous outrage this is, how society is going to the dogs, how in my day we never had thieves, et cetera, et cetera. Mostly because I don’t actually believe it. But I will say, in the greater scheme of things, were conscience, morals and ethics are important and worth considering — well, even I’m surprised.

I am dumbfounded. I have heard of some pretty shocking crimes in my time but that one probably takes the cake. It would be hard enough to live with yourself knowing you’ve stolen from someone, let alone from dying patients in hospital. Absolutely sick!

    Speechless.

A similar event happened in Vancouver Hospital a couple years ago. The thief told the elderly victim the hospital offered a jewelery cleaning service, and took her wedding rings. She and her family were, of course, devastated. The police did eventually catch the guy, but of course the rings were long gone. Sad.

That’s disgusting. I can’t imagine what went on their minds when they decided that stealing from elderly dying people is a plan worth carrying out.

I heard about this a couple of days ago and couldn’t believe how awful some people can be. I really hope they catch those idiots and give them a hard knocking on the head.
