A repost of one my better entries, marking my first year writing here. Dr Weanus makes his first appearance. Originally posted October 2009.
Dr. Weanus is a bundle of energy today — running here to order antibiotics, running there to discharge a patient, dictating consults, writing notes, reading films, asking pointless questions and generally making a nuisance of himself.
No doubt after five or six hours of this toing-and-froing, one might think Dr Weanus would be getting a wee bit tired, and that a break with a spot of tea and perhaps a biscuit might be order. Not our heroic Dr. W.!
Offered a chair, he impatiently waves his arms in the air. He must carry on. There are patients to see! Lives to be saved! Rest is for the weak, the mortal!
“Oh no,” he says airily. “Sitting is for nurses!”
My favourite internist.
