Locally, I think it depends on the nursing leadership within an organization. Overall, though, I am encouraged by what I see in our profession. I spoke to a nurse last week who questioned a treatment decision and was planning to discuss it more with the provider, but in preparation, she did a complete lit review (and no, she’s *not* a Master’s-prepared nurse). I think nurses are taking charge of their role and embracing the professionalism of it. Still, we do have a pervasive/invasive nursing culture. I don’t necessarily think “war stories” are bad. That oral history and education is an important part of nursing education, especially as we are starting to see are most experienced nurses leave (retire) the profession as you and ImpactedNurse discussed this week.
